Realsoft 3D for Linux

Realsoft 3D Linux version should run on any modern Linux distribution, such as RedHat, Fedora, Ubuntu, Debian, Slackware, Mandrake and SUSE. Currently RedHat 9 (glibc-2.3) is the oldest distro we support.

Both RPM and Debian packages are supported, as well as a .sh shell script based setup package, which should work on any Linux system.

Realsoft 3D is currently available for Intel's x86 and Athlon's x86_64 architectures.

Motif is required. Any Motif version based on the official Motif code will do, including OpenMotif. However, LessTiff does not work well and is not recommended.

The following optional packages are recommended:

  • OpenGL. For 3D realtime shaded rendering you need OpenGL.
  • FreeType. For font rendering you need the freetype library. It should be included with most linux distributions. You can download it from as well.
  • Double buffered view windows (Xlib mode only) are implemented via Xfree DBE extension. DBE is included by all modern linux distros by default.
  • ffmpeg. Realsoft 3D supports various animation formats, including mpeg, avi and flash through ffmpeg library. See
